Code of Conduct

Scintillation is committed to offering all attendees a safe and positive convention experience.

We expect attendees to respect each other and each other’s boundaries in all convention space including but not limited to programming, parties, and the consuite.

COVID: Everyone over the age of two (2) must wear a mask properly while in the convention hotel. Members may temporarily remove their masks while drinking in the consuite. Exception: Panelists may remove thier masks during their panels when taking a sip of water.

The convention and the Holiday Inn are non-smoking environments, this includes vaping.

Outside food may not be consumed in the hotel’s public spaces or in meeting rooms. If you wish to eat food brought in from outside, you may do so in your room.

If you wish to take photographs and or recordings, please ask the concerned people’s permission first.

Inappropriate behaviour will not be tolerated. This includes but is not limited to offensive verbal comments, deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, unwelcome photography or recording.

If a Scintillation attendee is found in violation of this code of conduct, the convention organizers may, at their discretion, take any lawful action deemed appropriate, including, but not limited to, warning the offender or expelling them from the convention with no refund.

If you feel that you are being discriminated against or harassed, or if you notice someone behaving inappropriately (such as violating hotel or convention policies), we suggest the following:

* If you feel comfortable doing so, point out the inappropriate behaviour to the person(s) involved. Often this will solve the problem immediately.

* If you do not feel comfortable talking with the person(s) involved or if talking to them does not resolve the issue, please contact ANY Scintillation staff member (identifiable by “Staff” badges) immediately. They will then get hold of our code of conduct liaisons, who will document the incident and take whatever action is necessary. Note that we need to know during the convention about any incidents in order to take action.

While we are primarily concerned with member’s behaviour in Scintillation space during the convention, we will also take into consideration events that might occur outside that space, for example in local shops, bars, restaurants, or on the street, or in online contexts.

If deemed necessary, convention staff will help attendees contact hotel security or local law enforcement, or otherwise provide assistance. We value your presence.
